Bora Bora Honeymoon Planning Guide

Bora Bora is the world’s most iconic honeymoon destination — and planning it well is the difference between a good trip and the trip of a lifetime. This guide walks you through resorts, romance, timing and budget.

Last verified: October 2026

Start with the timing

Aim for the dry season (May–October) for calm, clear water and reliable sun. May and October, either side of the June–September high season, balance good weather with better rates. Many resorts offer honeymoon perks — mention it when booking.

Where to stay for romance

The most romantic overwater and beachfront resorts for couples.

Romantic things to do together

Sunset cruises, private lagoon tours and unforgettable shared experiences.

Dining for two

Fine dining and beachfront restaurants perfect for a celebration.

What Bora Bora honeymoon packages usually include

Most Bora Bora honeymoon packages, sold by airlines such as Air Tahiti Nui, tour operators and travel advisors, bundle the same building blocks:

  • International flights to Papeete (PPT)
  • Air Tahiti or Air Moana flights to Bora Bora, about 50 minutes each way
  • A set number of nights, often split between overwater and beach or garden rooms
  • Sometimes daily breakfast, resort credit or a honeymoon amenity

Before you compare two packages, line up the same room category, the same number of nights and the same meal plan. A "from" price usually refers to the lowest room and the cheapest travel dates.

Costs to check in any honeymoon package

  • Boat transfers: Many of the luxury resorts sit on motus (small islets), and transfers are usually charged at about $100–300 per person return. The Conrad, for example, charges XPF 18,000 per person for a shared transfer.
  • Taxes and fees: These vary by resort. At InterContinental Le Moana they add about 16.6% plus a city tax of XPF 200 per person per night (Oct 2026).
  • Meals: Resort dining is expensive and most motu resorts are a boat ride from Vaitape, so a half-board or breakfast-included rate can be worth it.
  • Arrival nights: Check that your international arrival connects the same day with a flight to Bora Bora. If it doesn't, the package should include a hotel night in Tahiti.

Adding a second island to your honeymoon

Moorea is the easiest second island to add. Air Tahiti's Maeva Pass covers Tahiti plus two to four of Bora Bora, Moorea, Huahine and Raiatea, starting from about €416 per person in low season for two islands (fares for travel from April 2026). The pass is a closed loop from Tahiti, each island can be visited once, and tickets can't be changed or refunded once issued. Compare the islands on our Bora Bora vs Moorea page.

Getting legally married in Bora Bora

Since a 2009 law, foreign couples can legally marry in French Polynesia with no residency requirement. Only a civil ceremony performed at a town hall (mairie) is legally binding, and the mayor must approve the application in advance. The file includes an application form, proof that you are both free to marry and a letter to the mayor. A religious or symbolic ceremony, such as a Polynesian-style ceremony on the beach, has no legal effect on its own, so some couples marry at home first.

More questions

How much does a Bora Bora honeymoon cost?

The room is the biggest cost. Overwater bungalows at the Four Seasons and Conrad start from about $2,500 a night and at the St. Regis from about $4,000 (Oct 2026). For a five-day trip, budget roughly $2,000–2,500 for two for activities, plus transfers, meals and international flights.
