A transparent look at what a Bora Bora vacation really costs, from flights and bungalows to meals, tours, and hidden extras.
Bora Bora has a reputation as a splurge destination, and it can be — but understanding where the money goes helps you plan a trip that fits your budget.
The big line items
- Flights: International airfare to Tahiti plus the domestic hop to Bora Bora (about $300–600 return per person on Air Tahiti or Air Moana) is a major cost, though for most travelers the room is bigger.
- Accommodation: Overwater bungalows command premium nightly rates; garden and beach rooms cost considerably less.
- Food: Resort meals are expensive due to imported goods and island logistics.
- Transfers: Boat transfers from the airport to motu resorts are usually charged, often $100–300 per person return.
Sample budget ranges
A weeklong trip can range from a mid-tier experience using beach bungalows and local dining to an ultra-luxury honeymoon in a premium overwater villa with private tours. Set expectations early and prioritize the experiences that matter most to you.
How to save
- Travel in the shoulder or wet season for lower rates.
- Book a bungalow with breakfast included and eat lunch at roulottes.
- Split your stay between overwater and beachfront rooms.
- Buy some snacks and drinks in Vaitape rather than at the resort.
With smart choices, paradise is more attainable than the glossy brochures suggest.

Bora Bora cost line by line
- Rooms: Budget lodgings run roughly $150–350 a night; Le Moana starts around $700 and Pearl around $800; Four Seasons and Conrad overwater start around $2,500 and St. Regis around $4,000.
- Domestic flights: Air Tahiti or Air Moana from Papeete, about $300–600 per person return.
- Transfers: Motu resorts usually charge for the airport boat, often $100–300 per person return. Main-island hotels near Matira are reached by the free airline shuttle to Vaitape and a short drive.
- Food: The budget column assumes a kitchenette, supermarket shopping and roulottes, about $80–100 a day for two. Resort meals cost far more: mains at the Four Seasons' Arii Moana restaurant run 5,100–8,900 XPF (about $48–84) each, so our luxury column allows $400–700 a day for two.
- Activities: Budget covers a shared lagoon tour (from about $120 per person) and a 4x4 tour (from about $90 per person). Mid-range adds a sunset catamaran (from about $200 per person). Luxury assumes private excursions, such as a private half-day boat from about $1,050 for two.
Bora Bora vacation cost: the fine print
Check whether quoted room rates include tax. InterContinental Le Moana, for example, states that rates are subject to a combined 16.595% government tax and service charge, plus a city tax of 200 XPF per person per day. On a $1,000-a-night room, that combined charge adds about $166 a night.
Look for packages that bundle extras. In October 2026, the Four Seasons was advertising a fourth night free when you book three paid nights, with breakfast and shared airport transfers included, which takes two lines off the budget above. Resorts on the main island also let you walk or cycle to cheaper restaurants, which matters more over a week than a single big splurge.

What is the cheapest way to visit Bora Bora?
Stay in a self-catering bungalow on the main island, eat at roulottes and snack bars, and consider the Apetahi Express ferry from Papeete (about 7,000 XPF, or roughly $66, one way) instead of flying. The crossing takes about seven hours, so it suits flexible travelers rather than short trips.
